Ranking Grand Theft Auto 5-Produced Originals: Which Animated Series Should Get A Spin-Off?
Adaptations of gaming franchises are all of the rage right now, especially in adult animation with the likes of Tomb Raider, Castlevania, and more all getting their fair due. But what about adult animation produced IN gaming franchises. It’s closer than you think, and we’ve devised a list of animated series produced in Grand Theft Auto V/Online that we’d love to see be spun-off and turned into actual full-fledged series. With Grand Theft Auto 6 coming in sometime 2026, who knows what Rockstar will come up with in future installments of the franchise that could lend themselves to future original series? Grand Theft Hamlet is just the start…
Weazel: Jack Howitzer
Jack Howitzer has been a part of the Grand Theft Auto-verse for decades so an entire series inspired by the character would certainly get a bunch of traction. Imagine a full blown machinima of Jack just going around town fucking with the locals with his cohorts Rufus Bellows and Ho Chi Sock, one of which is trying to keep his client out of trouble while the other keeps mouthing off to whomever is going to listen.
Moorehead Rides Again
Gordon Moorehead is a detective working full-time to solve crimes that hearkens back to the 1950s, a golden era of when we were allowed to smoke on television, put women in clothing that showcases their big bosoms, and be politically incorrect which various ethnicities and not let it worry about it ruining your career. A new series that brings back these roots would only work in Grand Theft Auto and would be one of the most talked about animated comedies of the modern age.
Impotent Rage
We deal with social justice warriors all of the time, but Grand Theft Auto has been seeing that trend go wild for almost a decade now and a new animated comedy series that riffs on extreme liberalism would do well today. It’s actually a growing genre of animated comedy with series like The New Norm Show and Mr. Birchum going this route with much fanfare.
Republican Space Rangers
Just as ridiculous as extreme liberalism is extreme nationalism and Grand Theft Auto saw fit to produce an animated series all about this. Featuring a bunch of American patriots running around in Halo-inspired space costumes, Republican Space Rangers spoofs the GOP’s way of thinking that should hit hard with Trumpers.
Princess Robot Bubblegum
Grand Theft Auto’s answer to anime is a strong one, Princess Robot Bubblegum is kind of what we thought was going to happen when anime growth was happening here in the United States. Instead we get shows like Castlevania: Nocturne, which is still great don’t get us wrong, but a full-fledged PRB show that lampoons anime tropes produced by the people behind Grand Theft Auto has all of the makings of a big-time series.
Underbelly of Paradise
Machina-looking cop shows are kind of starting to sprout up on GTARP, but they don’t quite yet have the production value nor storytelling that captivates you quite like The Underbelly of Paradise. Teaming up with Steve Haines to take a look at why Los Santos is the way it is has all of the makings of a compelling series not unlike the Jack Howtizer series, but more “real”.
Fame or Shame
Lazlow has been a part of Grand Theft Auto lore for decades and he even had a real talk show on Sirius XM radio before he left and continued a very affluent career working for Rockstar Games as a producer. As much fun as I love this scripted Fame or Shame series, if we’re gonna go machinima why not go crazy in light of GTARP? An international talent show produced IN GTA with a cash prize and a contract of sorts? I’m in.
Kung Fu Rainbow Lazerforce
One thing the 1990s could NOT do without. Animated TV shows about a group of teenagers in a bunch of different settings and a dozen or so ripoffs of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Put those things together and do it about a team of virgin superheroes, and you’ve got yourself Kung Fu Rainbow Lazer Force! Personally, I think this is the animated comedy with the most legs and I’d love to see this one really come to life. Grand Theft Auto has always had its finger in the pulse of producing satire and this one would hit so hard on contemporary art culture that there would be riots…but that’s what you want.
