English Dub Review: Rick and Morty: The Anime “Her Innermost Wish”

Overview

The Smith family battles the Federation; Elle vows to protect Morty.

Our Take

The penultimate episode of Rick and Morty: The Anime is here and that may seem like a blessing to an abundance of internet fans that only see things from the visual standpoint, but really if anyone were to give this show a chance I think everyone would get a lot out of it. I have the voices ranked as follows:

1)OG Rick and Morty

2) Rick and Morty: The Anime

10000) Rick and Morty Season Seven and onward

Yes, I get the animation production doesn’t have the high fidelity of the OG series, but I actually don’t mind the grittiness as I think it adds to some of the character designs in an odd way. Granted, it can be a bit difficult to discern between Mullet Rick and Rick at times because of coloring issues, but the action sequences are top-notch and worthy of viewings. Moreover, the emotional toll this series takes on you mostly centered around Morty and Elle’s relationship, gets increasingly heavier as time goes on right up into a heartbreaking climax that had to happen regardless.

Rick and Morty: The Anime may have its warts, but the writing is very much there. Takashi Sano is bringing his best to the forefront and it’s showing in droves here. In fact, he probably could’ve helped with the mess that was the second episode of Uzumaki.
