English Dub Review: Vampire Dormitory “Love 9. The pretty boy goes to a party.”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Ruka has met his destined partner and is infatuated with her.  Meanwhile, the cafe saves money on renovations by having the workers DIY the process.  The tension between Ruka and Ren grows as Ren takes Mito home to meet his parents.

Our Take:
It’s unsurprising that Ruka finally saw Mito as a woman revealed to be his destined partner.  Sadly, this makes Mito’s attempt to hide her secret way worse than before.  Ruka doesn’t realize that Mito and his destined partner are the same person, and Ren is becoming more affectionate towards her.  Unfortunately, it looks like things will probably not get any better.  Why’s that?  Because we got ourselves another “Meet the Parents” scenario in this week’s episode, with Ren taking Mito to his mansion to confront his dysfunctional parents.  However, that isn’t until the second half of the episode.
The first half is spent on Mito and the guys renovating the cafe, with Ren helping out.  However, this causes plenty of tension between Ruka and Ren, with the latter vowing to prevent Mito from following his mother’s path with his vampiric father.  While it may seem like another filler moment before the plot kicks in again, it’s another way of expanding its characters further, including Ruka.  Ruka vows not to drink blood from women because he accidentally bit a girl when he was young.  His development was enough to forgive the episode’s laid-back approach that went on a bit longer than it should have.
However, that’s not the only surprise in this episode, as it finally reveals Ren’s father’s true purpose, which is similar to Ruka’s goal.  Ren’s father hosted Ren’s 17th birthday party as a wedding engagement for Ren and Mito so that his son could become the leader of the vampires with Mito as his prophesied bride.  But that’s nothing compared to Mito’s shocking transformation into a boy after Ren bit her neck.  At least she won’t have any trouble hiding her secret now.  Overall, the episode’s surprises regarding the main characters are enough to compensate for its laid-back cafe renovation plot.
