English Dub Review: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation “Magic Circle to the Sixth Stratum”

Overview:

With Roxy’s rescue, the search for Zenith resumes in earnest. Rudeus reconnects with his mentor amid the perils of the labyrinth. But why does she seem a little more awkward around him than before?

Our Take:

I can understand why Rudeus was upset that Roxy didn’t recognize him when she saw him again but he has to remember the last time she saw him he was seven years old. So, when he threw up when she didn’t recognize him I thought he was being a little dramatic. But luckily we didn’t fall into the typical anime trap of him not saying who he was because of this. The next scene she knew was Rudy; as the episode progressed we understood why she was acting so differently around him. It’s pretty clear that she has a crush on Rudeus.

I don’t think Rudeus sees Roxy as a love interest for multiple reasons. First, he’s married and doesn’t want to be like his father and have multiple wives. Second, by now he reveres Roxy as a religious figure and can’t romantically imagine her which is hard to believe considering he worships her panties like they’re a sacred text. All of that aside, Zenith still needs to be rescued and it seems like they’ve made it to the lair of the guardian.
