English Dub Review: An Archdemon’s Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride “The Angelic Knight Situation Sounds Like a Mess I’d Rather Not Get Involved In”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Turns out Raphael is a solid dude and Chastille starts living with Zagan and Nephy and Valefor.

OUR TAKE

…Huh, okay, I guess this whole thing with Raphael was not that big a deal and just about making sure Chastille ends up living with the rest of the main cast. I mean it’s not like fighting and action was exactly this show’s main focus anyway, and fight scenes do cost a pretty penny, but I definitely expected more going on with this than just a tense discussion at a table in a bar. Then again, we do have three more episodes, so there’s probably some battle that will break out from this so we get a proper climax. In the meantime, we now have a weird not-harem thing going on with Chastille being clearly in love with Zagan and now living with him as well now that she’s in exile as a knight, but she kinda…rationalizes herself out of being in love by saying that she actually just wants what Zagan and Nephy HAVE in their relationship but not necessarily Zagan himself. I mean, sure, why not. I don’t necessarily dislike Chastille as a character and I’m glad she gets to hang out with the main cast more, but I just really expected something more emotionally satisfying both in and out of story.

Also, Valefor apparently wraps up her own character development by fully accepting her place as the cute daughter of the group. Also fine, she’s an okay character and I’m glad she has found a loving home after apparently dealing with quite a bit of trauma and losing her original mother to one of the knights that Chastille used to work for. And yeah, now we have a nice little happy pseudo family that all live in the castle and all care about each other, and Zagan even gets to keep his one friend Barbatos We’ve come a long way since the beginning of the story where Zagan was basically a lonely bachelor who had to resort to buying a slave for even a little company. I suppose all that’s really left to look into was who poisoned Chastille at the bar. Yeah, I forgot to mention that, apparently someone tried to kill her and it wasn’t Raphael, and narrative convention kinda points to the pope doing it since he seemed a lot more nice, which was probably a misdirection. Then again, I’ve been wrong a lot this year so far with other shows so it could be anyone, really.
