English Dub Review: Ragna Crimson “My Comrade”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Olto Zora and Taratectra are lifelong friends who stand at a crossroads that could determine the battle.  Now, Ragna and Starlia may be the only ones who can prevent calamity.

Our Take:

The prolonged battle between the Corps and the dragon Monarchs may have reached its conclusion.  Last week, we saw that Starlia used all her powers from her comrades’ support to attack Taratectra.  Despite surviving the explosion, Taratectra was critically wounded by the blast, forcing him to make one last devastating move to eliminate his enemies.  Before then, we see that Taratectra was also a human soldier who served Princess Lakucia, so you can say that his life flashed before his eyes.  It also shows that Taratectra and Olto Zora are seen as comrades before and after their Monarch days, making their farewells a bit more tragic.

Despite the explosion being powerful enough to destroy the entire forest, Ragna and Starlia’s astral-projection spirit managed to freeze the blast with his Silverine Battle Arts, ending their prolonged battle.  Afterward, Starlia finds out about Ragna’s future self as the reason for his honorability and immense power.  Worried about him living a lonely future, Starlia bravely offers Ragna a chance to live a better one by abandoning Crimson and living with her.  Unfortunately, their victory is cut short by the appearance of Waltekamui, who beheads Starlia and immediately attacks Ragna.  Sadly, despite Ragna’s strength and Silverine body, he’s unable to destroy the vicious lightning dragon easily, resulting in him collapsing after using much of his power.

Overall, “My Comrade” concludes the ever-lasting showdown on a thrilling and visually dazzling note.  However, it’s also not without a few surprises that signify that another battle will soon take place, including Starlia’s shocking demise by Waltekamui.  Fortunately, Starlia somehow survives and now resides in a ruined city.  Another element that might play a part in future episodes is the demonic swords known as the Six Claws and Twin Fangs, which Waltekamui stole when he was a human outlaw.  If that’s the case, Ragna has yet another harrowing struggle to overcome regarding the vicious Waltekamui.
