English Dub Review: Re:Monster “Re:D Bear”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Gobrou continues leveling up while also training the other goblins around him, as well as befriending some humans who were previously targeted by them. Later, he goes out into the forest to fight a giant red bear and manages to narrowly defeat it, allowing him to evolve to an Ogre by his 35th day.
OUR TAKE
Looks like we’re still pretty much in the initial stages of this story, as it’s just about how Gobrou is building himself and his forces up, only within the first month or so of his existence in this new world. As this is an Isekai power fantasy story, it would make sense that Gobrou is able to speed through the levels and obtain the best forms as fast as possible, with the form he achieves here apparently not even the form he will maintain for most of the story. You could say “this isn’t even his final form” hahahaaaaaaaaa. But yeah, in the meantime, we’re getting to meet and get to know more characters who may or may not be more important later. We already had Gobkichi and Gobmi, but now we also have Gobe, Hobsei, Hobsato, and a bunch of humans whose names are just “The (blank)”, like The Redhead who crawls into bed with him after he saves her from being eaten and kills her attackers. The dude hasn’t even been there two months and he’s already got to forming a harem, which is actually faster than it usually happens in these shows. I guess the process has really gotten streamlined.
There’s not as much notable character growth or development this week, seeing as it’s just building on stuff from last time. Gobrou is still eager to get really strong and is building up everyone around him, which naturally leads to him becoming their leader. However, whether because of his new goblin instincts or his previous ambition, he has also gained a thirst for combat and facing strong opponents, leading to fighting the big red bear that has apparently been plaguing their lands for awhile now. On top of that, he previously defeated a kind of unicorn that gave him the ability to strike three times at once, as well as eating a ton of other strong animals that gave him several other abilities that were apparently not important enough to properly list. The point is, the guy is going pretty overboard with the level ups and will no doubt be at his actual final form by the end of next episode, maybe the one after. I certainly hope it won’t take until that point for us to get to some actual character development, but I’m sixteen episodes into Reincarnated as a Slime and Rimiru seems to stall out as a character pretty early on, so who knows.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
