Review: Krapopolis “Death Takes a Holiday”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
While Shlub, Stupendous, and Hippocampus entertain the arriving Jason and Argonauts (and immediately kill most of them), Deliria and Tyrannis are invited to a party by Hestia, goddess of hearth and home. Once there, they realize that all the gods have been stripped of their powers and have become mortal, which is fun for Ty at first until Hestia’s mortal boyfriend Tony starts an uprising against the vulnerable gods, leaving mother and son to flee. Ty confronts Tony and kills him, giving Deliria the antidote so they can escape.
OUR TAKE
Damn, how long is this first season supposed to be? I feel like I saw somewhere they were going to maybe have eighteen episodes but then I saw someone mention it was supposed to be thirteen. Now we’re at fifteen and it’s apparently going on break for at least a week so Bob’s Burgers can burn off the rest of its cut short season, so who knows how long we’re going. I’ve also heard rumors that they’re pulling from some already completed Season 2 episodes since the strikes lead to some seasons not being completed, but I don’t think there’s anything to verify that. You probably have noticed by now that I’m stalling to talk about this episode, mainly because there isn’t a ton to talk about with the main plot while there’s basically nothing to talk about with the B plot. Let’s get the B plot out of the way now, it’s just really dull. The rest of the family that didn’t go to the god party try to keep Homer, the blind survivor of the Argonauts, from finding out all of them are dead, he finds out anyway, but makes them get their story straight so he looks better, gets killed anyway. Let’s just forget about it and move on.
The A plot, involving Tyrannis and Deliria going to a god party, does provide a bit more notable character development, with Deliria needing to learn how to survive without her powers and getting mortally wounded for it. Meanwhile, Tyrannis actually agrees with Tony, the guy who betrays Hestia to start an uprising that seems to kill some of the gods, but ends up working to stop him in order to save his mom. Potentially interesting moral dilemma and possibly setting up a recurring problem with humans trying tactics to depower and destroy the gods themselves, as well as letting two characters who are often just sniping at each other have a moment of vulnerability. But it just seems like we brush past both of them rather quickly and carelessly. We’ve had moments that have made clear that Tyrannis and Deliria do actually care for each other in their own way, so I guess it’s nice that we get some more of that, but I don’t know if this will lead to any notable change later. Likewise, while I expect we’ll get more humans trying to overthrow the gods, I don’t know if it’ll do much beyond the episode it happens in. Guess we’ll see in two weeks (or more!) if anything comes of that.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
