English Dub Review: Undead Unluck “Tatiana”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Fuuko’s injury by Rip won’t repair until he’s dead, putting a time limit on how long they have to stop him before Fuuko dies, so Tatiana uses her ability Untouchable to destroy the ship, allowing Andy to target Rip. In flashbacks, we see a fight that happened between episodes of Tatiana challenging the newly joined Fuuko and Andy to a fight as vengeance for Gina’s death, but they manage to resolve things and allow Fuuko to become friends with her.
OUR TAKE
We’re at the midpoint of the arc and I guess this episode is really more of an interlude to focus on Tatiana than about progressing much of the story. I’m not opposed to making time to give supporting characters time in the spotlight to flesh them out, especially if they’re the least developed in the group they’re in at the moment. I’m also not NECESSARILY opposed to intrusive flashbacks about a character’s backstory that only benefit the audience if they’re handled well enough. What’s weird to me is that they wedged in a whole flashback story that only would’ve taken place a few episodes ago, just to explain “hey, actually these two characters have been friends this whole time since then” in order to explain their actions in the present. If it was that important that those events had to happen in the recent past, why not just show them happen then? And if the point was to show these characters are becoming friends, why not have that development happen in the present? It would’ve worked perfectly fine for them to start the mission with Tatiana still sore about Gina’s death and then give her a character arc of becoming friends with Fuuko and learning to trust her. It’s all just so uneven and dislocated.
Anywho, like I said, this is basically a pause in the action to both explain things about Tatiana and set a ticking clock about Fuuko being in danger because her wound won’t close due to Unrepair’s ability. That leaves us the next two episodes to focus on the fight and either kill him or get him to turn off the ability, as Fuuko is in no way in any real danger when we’re only halfway through the show. Kinda odd that they didn’t use the fact that Tatiana was kidnapped for being a Negator to have her bond with Chikara, or the fact she grew long hair after being in her ball for so long links her to Fuuko, who ALSO had super long hair because SHE couldn’t touch anyone. Given that she’s the ostensible focus of the episode, it would make sense to show how she connects to the other related characters…but oh well, I guess. Maybe later. I kinda doubt we’ll have the time for it since there are a bunch of other Roundtable members to focus on.
Also…I just don’t like how they put so much emphasis on the naked little girl putting elongated objects in her mouth. Why do that? Just gross.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
