English Dub Review: The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash “To Confront the Organization”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Ivy and the Blazing Sword discuss their options in investigating the Green Gale, deciding to use Sora as a lie detector while interviewing members of the Adventurer’s Guild. Eventually they find some suspects and decide to look further into things, telling other authorities about the potential traitors. Later, while Ivy does laundry with one of her guildmates, he discusses that he knows Ivy is actually a girl but understands why she’s kept quiet about it. But before they can head back, they’re stopped by Meela and the twins from the Green Gale, who invite them away, likely up to no good.

OUR TAKE

Huh, I guess I misinterpreted some things that happened last time. I kind of assumed that the Green Gale were already being removed from the story, but it looks like they’ll be somewhat of the main antagonists for possibly the remainder of the series. Last episode was just about introducing them and identifying them as bad guys…in a way I don’t think was the most interesting method they could’ve done that, but okay. Now, with Ivy being at least upfront about her owning a slime that can detect lies somehow (but not that she also has a giant panther), they’re all further looking into how leaked info is getting other adventurers in danger. Initially I thought this made things a bit too easy as, along with Sora acting as a lie detector, Ivy also has a voice (which we can’t hear) from her past life providing commentary, and apparently hints that help the investigation. I haven’t really been mentioning the voice because, well, it hasn’t really been saying much or doing much that’s worth mentioning until now, and frankly giving hints about a secret bookcase because it’s in the movies seems like something that could’ve been replaced with a character naturally finding it on their own. What is the narrative purpose of this voice?

I still don’t really have much reason to distinguish the several members of the Blazing Sword from each other since they don’t really stand out from one another aside from their designs, which are all pretty stock standard adventurer designs. It’s nice that they’re being accepting of Ivy, even though she is still (understandably) keeping some things from them, but aside from being extra help that can assist her in fighting monsters and giving her some rep to use when investigating things like this, they’re not exactly the most compelling group. They’re supportive fatherly/brotherly figures that are good for protecting her too, I guess. I don’t really see much about that changing within the next three episodes when the show wraps, so I guess the most I can hope for is that things are somewhat interesting with the things they’ve set up. Next episode at least seems like it’ll show us more about what the Green Gale have been up to, so maybe that’ll spice things up finally. But I’ll be honest, this show has only gotten harder and harder to commit attention to, even if it’s my job to talk about it.
