English Dub Review: The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash “Into the Vortex of the Incidents”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

After observing the Green Gale at a seemingly harmless lunch, the Blazing Sword build up their plan to find out who the Green Gale are allied with, formulating a sting operation and using a meet and greet with Ivy to determine who else might be part of the conspiracy. Ivy and a party member then go with the Green Gale to a different diner, confident they can watch their backs.

OUR TAKE

Third to last episode of the series and the investigation into the Green Gale’s benefactors continues to build. That episode title is rather weird though, isn’t it? Nobody went into a vortex, whether metaphorically or literally, and the incidents that this secret bad group are doing still seem to be only described in vague detail, never shown. Sorry to be pedantic about this, but it’s such a damn odd thing to call your episode, and it counts towards the word count so that helps too. The next episode is titled “Going to War” but I’ll bet you a good twenty bucks that we’re not going to see an actual war break out in the episode itself. Maybe a light scuffle if we’re lucky. We also still don’t have even an iota of a clue on what exactly this big bad group the Green Gale is working for wants or what it’s hoping to accomplish by capturing these people. I get that it’s a slavery ring so kidnapping and selling people is kind of the point, but surely we can get a bit more detail than that, right? Well, if we can, we’ve got two more episodes to do so, so they better hurry up.

But a solid, unambiguously good thing I did see from this episode would be the continued fleshing out of Meela and her brothers. I mean yeah, they’re working for a slavery ring and planning to kidnap a small child and (supposedly) steal her apparently rare slime, but they’re people too! And it seems that Ivy telling Meela that her job as a tamer is actually important did touch her deeply, so maybe we’ll see some moment of conflict later once her villainous nature is revealed. Uh, well, I should say when she decides to reveal it, because apparently a bunch of people already know she’s evil, including the audience, so we’re really just waiting for her to catch up with the plot. As much as it is neat that we’re seeing the Blazing Sword ahead of the game, it would also be nice to see some twists and turns here, like maybe the Green Gale has a way to both escape suspicion and turn it back around on the Blazing Sword. But it’s kinda late for that and at this point I’m just ready for the show to be over, so let’s hang in there for the next couple weeks so we can limp to the finish line. Actually, now that I think about it, where the hell is that big panther that Ivy tamed a few episodes ago?
