English Dub Review: Ninja Kamui “Episode 7”
Overview
Joe quickly masters control over his Kamui just at the last second, saving Emma. She then reminisces on the past and her relationship with Mari.
Our Take
Can’t help but feel like this episode was trying its best to try and make sense of the onslaught on twists and reveals with Emma last episode. Honestly? It helped a little. Everything surrounding Emma still feels very sudden and last-minute, but her backstory was the most emotionally compelling Ninja Kamui’s ever been.
Not to say the show suddenly is full of emotional depth and nuance. Emma’s backstory is about as straightforward as you can get, but with the show suddenly throwing so many disparate concepts together in an increasingly collage-y type of way, sometimes simple is best. After becoming a ninja Emma forces herself to discard her emotions, and Mari reminds her that something like that isn’t possible, regardless of some motto. We slowly see the both of them warm up to each other over the course of the episode. I feel more for Emma and Mari’s relationship compared to her relationship with Joe– and that’s supposed to be the driving force of the narrative! They even go as far to change the ending sequence up, having her flashback to the moment where Emma sees Mari’s corpse, as a single tear falls from her eye. Real nice touch.
During the flashback, we see how the organization slowly falls apart. Much less interested in that, but it’s important to note.
A fine flashback episode, and for once I don’t have much to say about this week’s fight. Still hoping they aren’t going to be full CG from here on. Let’s see what next week brings to the table.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
