English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Red Dragon II”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
A desperate search within the dragon’s stomach leads to a gruesome discovery, revealing that resurrection magic alone won’t be enough to restore Falin.

Our Take:
Do you remember when this series was supposed to be a light-hearted and hilarious perspective on the Dungeons & Dragons aspect involving adventurers eating monsters? Well, that’s what it was supposed to be until we saw the previous episode. Following a series of monster food shenanigans, its tone immediately switched to “ordinary action fantasy” territory, with Laios and his team battling and defeating the dreadful Red Dragon. It’s a sudden change of pace for a comedic concept, but it’s also not without its thrilling and surprising aspects that warrant this alteration.
The biggest surprise came from the previous episode’s grim conclusion, which had Laios and the crew discover that they may be too late in rescuing Falin despite slaying the Red Dragon. It also didn’t help that the series’s upbeat ending theme appeared immediately after that horrifying reveal. Talk about a tonal shift gone wrong. However, their woeful goodbyes didn’t last long, as Marcille decided to use her black magic to resurrect Falin by combining the remaining skeleton bones with the Red Dragon meat. While initially dangerous, Marcille’s magic revived Falin, whose mana seemed much stronger than before. One example is Falin performing defensive magic to protect Senshi without chanting a single word, which may be helpful in their journey home.
While the episode returned to the basics of cooking monster food, mainly the Red Dragon, it offers a few heartfelt and amusing moments that serve as a delectable conclusion to the series’s first half. However, it also has some essential teases depicting the direction the second half might take during the party’s quest to return to the surface. The primary one is the appearance of a mysterious elf woman looking upon the dragon’s corpse. Based on her mood, she might be a new antagonist for the characters to confront during their trek back home. If that’s the case, the Red Dragon is now the least of their problems.
