English Dub Review: Classroom of the Elite “The first cause of Absurd conclusions I ascribe to the want of Method.”

Overview:

Class C considers various strategies for the special exam, but they all lack a decisive factor. Hirata remains disappointed in the class vote result. Ayanokoji calls out to Hirata, who acts coldly towards Mii-chan who is worried about him.

Our Take:

I think we’ve spent enough time with Ayanokoji to realize that he doesn’t help anyone out of the kindness of his heart. After Yamauchi got expelled, Hirata has become disilliusioned with his class becasue of his past experiences with bullying. Hirata handled the bullying in his middle school by becoming the biggest badass in his class. He ruled with an iron fist but he wasn’t happy about that either because of course no one was having a good time. He wants people to be happy, so when Yamauchi became the pariah of the class he felt like he was reliving his worst nightmare.

Ayanokoji took it upon himself to sit Hirata down and set him straight. We are coming up on a special exam so I think we all know that Ayanokoji has a plan and it must involve Hirata. I was a little confused because during their conversation Hirata said “So, this is the real you? No kindness or pity behind your eyes” but then goes on to thank him while crying for “setting him straight” so I think that boy got the wool pulled over his eyes or something. Say what you will about this anime, it keeps you on your toes.
