English Dub Review: Blue Exorcist “Where Secrets Are”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Yukio is brought before the top Exorcists to discuss his connections to Saburota Todo, the antagonist from last season, but he leaves wondering if he can trust Mephisto Pheles. Later, the Ex-Wires move onto their next assignment, which involves exercising a spirit in the girls’ bathroom.
OUR TAKE
It looks like we’re still pretty much in the Set-up and Shenanigans part of the season, with the main cast doing minor exorcism missions while the adults face bigger threats that imply more serious battles ahead. In this case, Arthur and Shura are with a character introduced last time named Lightning as they fight off demons around some sort of hadron collider that is actually a demon portal. That’s kind of a neat idea, using realistic science to play into the demonic fantasy stuff, as well as potentially contributing to my fan theory that this show is secretly a prequel to the Doom games, but that’s all for now. Todo is still alive and working for someone, possibly the Illuminati. And the exorcism is mostly focused on Shiemi and Izumo, who seem to still be on the same level of friendliness as the first season. Keep in mind that the first season came out in 2011, so Izumo’s style of tsundere was close to going out of style even then, so this all seems pretty tedious. Anyway, maybe next week will be better.
