English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “The World of Magic”

Overview:

Frieren, Kanne, and Lawine struggle with the 13th party over possession of the Stille, but there’ll be more surprises in store before their battle, and the first test, reach their conclusion.

Our Take:

I know that sometimes an overpowered character can make a series boring but if done right it can make things great. Either you lean into it with a comedic mindset like One Punch Man or you show how far a character has come to be this strong. Frieren has been alive for potentially thousands of years so it stands to reason that she would have a power level over 9,000 as they say. The fight scenes with Frieren tend to be short but sweet. Yes, we know she’s going to win but the way she wins is usually damn impressive.

I promise this metaphor will make sense eventually but it reminds me a lot of Slumdog Millionaire. What I mean is that the episode tends to show us a lesson or spell that Frieren learned at one time to perfectly counter the situation she’s in. I do think it’s kind of interesting that Fern got everything she needed to pass the exam well before Frieren did. I guess this goes to show that Frieren is a good teacher as well.
