English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Court Cuisine/Boiled in Salt Water”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
A starving Laios angers a mysterious elf while hunting for food in Living Paintings. Later, Chilchuck finds himself trapped with a crabby Mimic.
Our Take:
After having an eventful snack break and a delicious ghostly sorbet, Laios and the gang continue to make their way down the dungeon to rescue Falin. But, of course, we can’t forget about finding more monster-sized meals to consume along the way because, as always, they can’t fight on an empty stomach. The same can be said for Laios, whose lack of food led him on a starving rampage.
Laios’s starvation led him and his team to an abandoned dining hall, which houses many living paintings. Fortunately for him, the photographs provide portals that’ll lead him to the delicious cuisines in each dimension. So, Laios uses that opportunity to eat as much food as he can muster, but it’s not without a few setbacks that prevent him from doing so. One is that he can’t bring the food back with him, and the food he eats disappears when Laios leaves the dimensions. The other setback is the mysterious elf who realizes Laios doesn’t belong in the painting’s dimension.
This side adventure doesn’t impact its plot much due to the lack of commitment to its scenario. The only interesting element surrounding it is that the living paintings showcase the family history of Prince Delgon, who inherited the throne following the king’s death. There’s also the elf jester who has its eyes set on Laios, in which the confrontation between them is disappointedly brief. Despite the humorous moments involving Laios’s quest for painting food, this side quest wasn’t as engaging as the previous ones.
Fortunately, the episode managed to pick up speed with its second half involving Chilchuck. This is the latest episode that puts the young locksmith in the spotlight, where he’s forced to confront his longtime enemy, a Mimic. However, he has to battle it while trapped in a separate room, which requires him to hit the switches in order. The second half provides a mildly thrilling scenario involving Chilchuck using the traps to gain the upper hand. It also showcases that he is actually a lot older than he appears to be.
The sixth episode still contains the fun humor and well-designed animation we expect from the previous episode, along with the court cuisines and a boiled Mimic. However, its first half makes this episode the weakest of the bunch so far. On the bright side, Laios has enough food in his belly to continue his quest to find more monstrous nourishments. Thankfully, this means he won’t be jumping into more living paintings for a while.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
