English Dub Review: Girlfriend, Girlfriend ” Her Resolve, and…”

Overview

Shino confesses what happened on the island to Mirika, who is less than sympathetic. She predicts that Shino is simply going to be rejected, and texts Naoya to come over so she can see it play out for herself.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Shino declares her decision to move to a different school. Despite an intense argument with Saki, who remains quite puzzled about Shino’s true emotions, along with her struggle to express herself, Shino receives the support she needs from the last person she’d expect, Mirika. Who intervenes in a calculated move to reach out to Naoya uniquely and unexpectedly, bringing everything to the forefront.

All I can say in response to that scene was, damn that was emotional… Following Naoya’s solid yet polite response, the aftermath transforms Shino into a determined individual, eager to be a part of Naoya’s life. The developments raise questions about whether Naoya and Saki can find reasons to refuse Shino, given her newfound determination and the unknown elements she brings to the table.

Overall, this was a decent and emotional way to end the season that leaves things on a bit of a hopeful yet uncertain note. Mirika’s indirect efforts may have come across as a bit under-handed, but in its own weird way, it helped Shino be able to voice out her feelings towards Naoya and helped lift a huge proverbial weight off her shoulders and made the proceedings all the more than satisfying. Hopefully, if Season 3 becomes a thing, I look forward to seeing how they find some sort of balance to this new dynamic.
