English Dub Review: The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist “Dark Brown? That Kind of Has a Cool Ring to It”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Wataru’s big sister, Kaede, points out to him that his hair is growing out and it’s “grubby.” Meanwhile, Aika decides to once again face her own feelings.

Our Take:
The tables are slowly turning for the two classmates, with Kei suggesting to Aika that she should be the one chasing Wataru. Considering that Wataru has spent most of his time pursuing Aika, this would be the best time for her to give him a taste of his own medicine. Of course, Aika would have to deal with her conflicted feelings for Wataru to do so. For the beautiful student, that’s easier said than done.
Additionally, the episode has Wataru hanging out with Shinomiya’s morals committee at lunch. One of the members attending is Aya, Inatomi’s friend who mistrusts men. She doesn’t fear them like Inatomi. She just straight-up despises all types of men, especially when they’re by Inatomi. Then, Wataru faces a situation involving his grubby hair, as pointed out by Kaede and Aika during the latter’s awkward conversation with him. This led to Kaede helping Wataru fix his hair, and the result was mildly amusing, as I expected from this sibling rivalry.
Amid its sitcom-like scenarios, the show’s plot unravels with Wataru getting caught in a love triangle, thanks to his classmate and soccer club member Takaaki Sasaki. Takaaki has a crush on Aika, which might put a damper on Wataru’s redemption quest. It also doesn’t help that he’s struggling with his exams without thinking about Aika’s beauty. Thankfully, realizing that Takaaki scored higher than Wataru helped him gain enough confidence to do better. Overall, it’s another fine episode with enough humorous moments to keep its rom-com formula going.
