English Dub Review: Spy X Family “Enjoy the Resort to the Fullest; Bragging About Vacation”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Yor is running on fumes after the cruise, but pushes herself to make sure she does everything Anya wants to do that day. Later, Anya tries bragging about her trip, but a friend’s trip is apparently much more impressive, so she asks her parents and Yor’s brother if she should lie…knowing they are all lying to each other. She decides lying isn’t worth it.
OUR TAKE
Well, despite still having three episodes left of this twelve episode season, it looks like we’re in the cool down phase with…wait a second, didn’t I JUST do this with the last few episodes of Dr. Stone? You may not be able to know that if you don’t read the Dr. Stone reviews, but basically they also had a climax to the actiony party of their story arc three episodes before the end of their season, so it’s weird to see that happening again in a different show I’m covering. Although, in Dr. Stone, that was as much about letting things calm down from the high tension as much as it was about transitioning into the next big plot point. Here, though…well, the season began with a few self-contained comedy episodes and now seems to be moving right back into self-contained comedy episodes. The comedy surrounding the funny way the Forger family was…well, forged, is a key aspect of the show so it’s understandable there will be plenty of episodes focusing on that in addition to ones focusing on the action heavy plot episodes. I guess I just wish they balanced that better by spreading things out more?
So, as for this specific episode and what it makes work or not work, we have two small stories this week. One is just a nice bit of Forger family time, mostly Yor and a little bit of Anya, and also Loid is there. Yor is tired as hell (boy do I relate right now) after fighting off a bunch of assassins on that ship, but also really wants to spend time with her daughter and pushes through. Anya actually knows about the fighting, but it’s not like she doesn’t care about her mom, since she tries to avoid activities that might show Yor’s scar from the battle. And eventually the two end up falling asleep on Loid and he’s forced to carry them back. Just a nice, cute time with the family. The other story is Anya trying to brag to people about her trip (to a degree) and then wonders if she should lie about it when that story doesn’t get people’s attention. It’s really just about building up to the scene where all the adults in her life are telling her not to lie even though she knows they’re all lying but for kinda good reasons. See what happens when I don’t have a ton of plot to really focus on?! Anyway, two more episodes to go. Maybe they’ll use them to lead into the movie? Perhaps? Or not I guess.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
