English Dub Review: Shy “A Heartless Person”

Overview:

Shy faces off against Stardust for the right to remain a hero. To stand a chance, Shy has to discover what drives her as a hero and fuels the power of her Heart-shift bracelets. Heroes from the Black Cross help manage the aftermath.

Our Take:

I know that Stardust is the type of character we are supposed to hate because he seems so “heartless” but if there’s one thing I’ve learned watching anime it’s that there’s usually more than meets the eye with these characters. Whenever there’s a British anime character I feel like it’s always hit or miss on whether they’re going to get someone who can do a good British accent or not. For the most part, I would say Aaron Campbell has done a pretty good job, there is the occasional rough delivery but I think he’s a good choice.

This was about the point where I stopped reading the manga and I think the anime has done a little bit better explaining the power system. It’s still confusing don’t get me wrong but it makes a bit more sense. Essentially, a hero’s “heart” decides their powers from my understanding. Stardust’s complex about not getting close to anyone manifests itself in a power that makes him essentially untouchable. Shy’s powers manifested this episode as fire because of her undying spirit I imagine. Everything is getting pretty interesting and I think we might have a new hero in town.
