English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “Like a Fairy Tale”
Overview:
After reflecting on the transient nature of the past as it exists in people’s collective memories, Frieren unexpectedly runs into a sworn enemy.
Our Take:
Do you know how badass you have to be to tell the person who came to assassinate you that not only are you stronger than them but stronger than their bosses boss? Imagine someone telling Darth Vader that they’re not just stronger than him but also stronger than Emperor Palpatine, that would be wild. After seeing everything that Frieren can do I’m inclined to believe that she is the strongest person alive.
I don’t know if I’m disappointed or intrigued that the demons in this seem to be evil. It feels like a lot of series lately try to make you feel bad for the demons and make you empathetic to them but not here. Frieren gives a backstory on why she doesn’t trust demons at all and it was a little haunting. A demon girl kept saying “Please Mommy” and when Frieren asked her why she did that she said “It stops humans from killing me” and I couldn’t decide if that was sad or creepy.
It looks like the human city they are in is going to come under attack soon and that isn’t good for Fern or Stark. I’m sure they can handle themselves but a demon army could pose a problem, but if we’ve learned anything it’s that Frieren might just be strong enough to defeat an army.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
