English Dub Review: The Dangers in my Heart “Karte 9: I Hate Anna”

Overview

Despite all the hints Anna throws at him, and others beginning to notice, Kyotaro refuses to believe that she could like him. He is his own worst enemy.

Our Take

This time around, Anna attempts to obtain Kyotaro’s social media information face obstacles due to his obliviousness and her indirect approach. A turning point occurs when Moeko intercepts Anna’s efforts by suggesting a group chat, obtaining Kyotaro’s info first and infuriating Anna. The situation eventually leads Kyotaro to the realization that Anna was actually seeking his Line throughout the ordeal.

When Haruya arrives Anna fakes a kiss with Kyotaro, so he leaves and Moeko ends up telling Chii the truth about Haruya. Kyotaro angrily convinces himself Anna has been using him to deter Haruya since they met, so he ignores her for the next two days. Upset, Anna confronts him and asks if she did anything wrong and starts crying. Kyotaro realizes Anna isn’t cruel enough to use people. When he apologizes she impulsively hugs him, and this time he lets her. They end up talking their whole walk home and since it is winter break the next day Anna asks him to meet out of school, this time openly asking for his social media so she can add him and they end up texting all night.

Overall, this was quite a rollercoaster of emotions with Anna showcasing moments of discomfort and the narrative emphasizing the growing connection between the two leads and the way the two needed each other. The shift in mood and direction since the change in the key visual is noted, with Anna displaying a more aggressive pursuit of Kyotaro. And the quirky yet wholesome nature of Anna’s efforts to obtain Kyotaro’s social media info adds a unique touch. But with three episodes left, I’m curious as to how far this goes.
