English Dub Review: Spy X Family “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive; Damian’s Field Research Trip”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Bond, the Forger’s dog, tries to escape being killed by Yor’s cooking and works with Loid while trying to get him to cook instead. Later, Damian goes on a trip with the custodian and his friends after being reprimanded for being tardy.
OUR TAKE
I guess we’re still doing little one off side adventures for awhile. Or maybe this is just the format of the story and I would know that if I had read the manga or watched the previous season. Either way, an interesting choice going from a family centered adventure to two separate ones, this time with one focused on the family dog (who is also apparently a secret experiment like Anya) and how he wishes to avoid certain death from eating some of Yor’s cooking. Now, the gag of “hot female main character cannot cook and makes deadly abominations” is pretty much done and dusted as a joke for me at this point. But thankfully that’s not the WHOLE joke this time, as it facilitates an intelligent dog helping run a secret infiltration mission for his secret agent owner. You sure don’t see that every day, that’s for sure. I realize that this show has basically a ton of secret agents around every nook and cranny, but if we get more that are actually animals, that would be a big plus for me. And maybe just avoid the bad cooking jokes, but that’s probably the opposite of what I should expect.
The other segment of the episode focuses on Damian, who I have learned through memes and fan-art (and wikipedia) is Anya’s most notable friend from school. Naturally, as the former bully character, he has two weird looking friends who he does genuinely care about even if he doesn’t quite know how to show it, but who will clearly die for him if need be. This segment is basically a camping trip for him and his friends under the supervision of Mr Green, who looks like he might end up being part of a secret organization of his own, but not quite yet from what I can tell. And it turns out that the trip itself is just a way to get Damian to relax a bit since he’s actually a very hard studier, so it’s got all the wholesome goo-iness that you might expect from this sort of episode. Anyway, next time, we’ll apparently be getting three different segments instead of the two we got this time or the one we got last week! That certainly sounds fun, though I do worry how much of it will be stuff I can actually analyze in a meaningful way. Guess we’ll find out!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
