English Dub Review: My Tiny Senpai “A Story About the Tiny Senpai Where I Work”

Overview:

Shinozaki and Katase play a dating sim, which makes them think about their own relationship.

Our Take:

Yamagishi has been working on a Meowtaro dating sim, and she wants the others to try it. Shinozaki and Katase realize that they’ve been through some of the scenarios in the game themselves. The private rooftop meeting is what really makes it click. It sets in that Katase rejected Shinozaki before he even got the chance to confess. However, Yamagishi tells them that the quest isn’t over yet because there hasn’t actually been a confession. She is talking about the game but Shinozaki and Katase take it advice for their own relationship.

The two then agree to officially become friends. It takes a while for that to even get started, but they eventually decide to go to a theme park together. This isn’t exactly a first date, but it is a step in the right direction.

I’m glad that this episode gives us a real conclusion to the rooftop meeting. It’s not the ideal conclusion, but it’s at least a start. I guess the two haven’t thought of themselves as anything but co-workers up to this point. I find that a little hard to believe, but it’s still nice that they finally recognize each other as friends.

The main takeaway is that it’s still possible for their relationship to grow. They’re starting out as friends, but that doesn’t mean they can’t eventually become an official couple. We get a small glimpse of that in this episode, and I would love to see it followed up on should we get a second season.
