English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Spontaneous Trip and Girlfriend”

Overview:

Not knowing what to do, Kazuya looks to good old Sumi for advice. She decides to take him on a trip to help clear his mind.

Our Take:

I must admit I misunderstood what Kazuya was doing last week. I thought he was booking a rental date with Chizuru to try and make her feel better but it turns out he was booking a date with Sumi to get some advice. This was actually a smart move because despite not saying almost anything at all, Sumi is one of the best people he could have gone to. I know there is a manga all about Sumi but she has the least amount of screen time and that is a shame because she might be the best character in this series.

Part of me wants to say that I’m disappointed that she won’t be the winner at the end of the end of this (let’s be real it’s Chizuru’s game to lose) but “winning” in this case means being with Kazuya. That might be the biggest L in history unless he changes his ways and fast. Sure he isn’t quite as big a douche as he was in the beginning but he’s still an insufferable loser. At least way back in the first episode he was willing to speak his mind. Now that boy has zero backbone and it might be the most annoying thing about him.
