English Dub Review: Sweet Reincarnation “Schemes and Frothy Hearts”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
A scheming noble seeks to sabotage the engagement between Petra and Squale. But when the mercenaries kidnap Pastry and Licorice instead, Pastry will need to think his way out of this sticky situation!
Our Take:
The escort mission just got a lot more challenging for Pastry and Casserole, as they’re tasked to protect the bride-to-be and her twin sister from the bad guys. In the previous episode, they successfully defended the princesses from a group of assassins. Now, the father/son duo faces a group far worse than assassins: mercenaries. The mercenaries are hired by Lord Armire, a disgraced duke and an enemy of Margrave Hubarek. He plots to use the mercenaries to kidnap Lady Petra and “pretend” to rescue her so he’ll restore his noble status by marrying her. Yeah, he’s one of those creepy assholes. Unfortunately for him, they happen to capture Pastry and Licorice instead during the engagement announcement party. This resulted in Pastry using his clever brain once more to manipulate the guard and warn Casserole of their capture. Of course, he must also comfort Licorice, who’s constantly anxious throughout the entire episode.
Even in dangerous predicaments like this, it’s easy to see that Pastry still knows how to outsmart his enemies with his brain instead of his brawn. “Schemes and Frothy Hearts” is unsurprisingly no different, with Pastry pretending to be scared to get the guard to spill the beans about his captor. However, he still has to use his sword skills to protect Licorice from the mercenary chief, who plans to kill her after realizing he captured the wrong sister. Additionally, Pastry knows how to be a gentleman despite his young age, especially toward the timid Licorice. Although, that may be hard to do so when her maid, Caera, is around chaperoning her, which is admittedly humorous to watch due to Pastry being uncomfortable around the maid.
The episode and the previous one showcased Licorice as the opposite of her twin sister Petra, as she appears less confident and more shy than the bride-to-be. That’s not to say that Licorice comes off as annoying, as she longs for self-confidence. Fortunately, she might be able to find it sooner rather than later, thanks to Pastry’s loyalty and kindness toward others. But first, the young lovers must escape from the former duke’s clutches alive. Overall, it’s another watchable episode in this by-the-numbers isekai series that focuses more on matchmaking than sweets. You know, the thing that’s in the show’s title. Regardless, I was somehow interested in how this predicament concludes based on the ending.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
