English Dub Review: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation “Abrupt Approach”

Overview:

Things seem to be looking up for Rudeus. And when Sara asks him on a date, he decides to forget his heartbreak and start a new romance. But putting the past behind him may be easier said than done.

Our Take:

Well… I remember reading this part in the book and it was just as cringey as I remembered. I don’t mean that in the way the kids do but more as it was really hard to watch. Our boy Rudeus has ED apparently and I can understand how after everything he’s been through that would just add more stress.

Luckily, Soldat ends up not being quite as big a piece of shit as we thought he was. After Rudeus starts beating the shit out of him for being an asshole he takes the poor little guy under his wing. Only in this instance taking him under his wing means taking Rudeus to a brothel and seeing if they can’t solve the problem.

After this episode, Rudeus looks more like a piece of shit than Soldat does because Rudeus put his foot in his mouth hardcore. He said some truly awful things about Sara and didn’t realize she was right behind him. Soldat offers to let Rudeus join him after this blowup and it looks like someone is hot on his trail.

The way Mushoku Tensei handles its characters is what sets it apart from other series. Rudeus isn’t a perfect overpowered MC. He makes mistakes and is sometimes a creepy, asshole. But he learns and moves on. I do think Sara was a great character and deserved better but unfortunately, that is how life is sometimes. People come into our life for some reason or another and leave just as soon as they entered.
