Report: What Are The Most Stressful TV Series In Adult Animation?
A new study has determined the most stressful television shows, revealing which shows are most likely to keep viewers awake at night rather than help them unwind.
For each popular television show on IMDb, anxiety experts at AmberWillo examined six factors to determine the least relaxing television shows to watch at night. These factors included each television show’s content rating, genre intensity, average IMDb rating, average episode runtime, and whether the television show contains any violence, gore, or frightening and intense scenes.
Ty Letang, Founder of AmberWillo, commented on the findings:
“Television can have a powerful effect on our mental state. While shows like Hannibal or Peaky Blinders are masterfully made, their dark themes and tension-filled storytelling keep our brains active rather than calm.
“If you want a better night’s sleep, it’s worth balancing these with lighter, more comforting shows earlier in the evening. A little balance in your viewing habits can make a big difference in how well you rest.”
Methodology:
- The study created a list of IMDb’s top 250 TV shows.
- A total of six factors were used to award each TV show with a final score out of 100. The factors and their weightings can be found below.
- The TV series with the lowest final scores then determined the final ranking.
Analyzed metrics:
Average rating: Positive correlation – 11% weighting
Content rating: Negative correlation – 16% weighting
Genre intensity: Negative correlation – 16% weighting
Episode runtime: Negative correlation – 11% weighting
Violence and gore: Negative correlation – 23% weighting
Frightening and intense scenes: Negative correlation – 23% weighting

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
