English Dub Review: AYAKA: A Story of Bonds and Wounds “My Master Would’ve Given Us an Earful”

Overview:

Yukito and company try to fight an Ara-Mitama, but help soon arrives.

Our Take:

Yukito works together with Ibara, Yuko, and Chataro to fight a fire Ara-Mitama. They manage to keep it at bay for a while, but Aka and Haruaki come in for the save and quickly win the battle. They even have a little scuffle with one another given their different ideals.

At least Yukito makes another friend in Ibara when it’s all over. He also trades contact info with her, Yuko, and Chataro. It’s nice to see that he’s coming out of his shell more.

The fight is pretty good and I’m actually intrigued by the scene between Aka and Haruaki. They trained under the same master, but they have two completely different views. I personally prefer Haruaki’s methods. That being said, I still don’t think Aka is necessarily a bad guy. I’m just not sure what his motives are yet.

AYAKA has been pretty slow up to this point. At least now, it seems like the story is progressing at a decent pace. We’re getting to know certain characters better and we’re getting more details that either are important or could be later on.
