Review: My Adventures with Superman “Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Lois and Jimmy begin looking into tabloids for Superman rumors, but Clark rips one out that mentions his time as a kid. The three are then tasked with getting questions from the people at Anthony Ivo’s gala for AmazoTech. However, Ivo is losing control of the company and resorts to bringing out his “Parasite 1.0” armor. Clark intervenes as Superman and saves the attendees, but Ivo is maimed by the armor, and Lois and Clark start going out. Later, Lois finds the ripped up page in Clark’s jacket and starts to believe that Clark could be Superman.
OUR TAKE
This week’s episode involved a lot of mish mashing of characters and concepts, as well as potentially putting us in a very unique place for a Superman cartoon if they decide to commit to Lois knowing Clark’s secret identity. But before I get to that, let’s talk about the main focus of the majority of the episode’s focus, namely the gala. Not only do we get to see Clark, Jimmy, and Lois in snazzy outfits, we also get to see them get their first official step up in investigating the upper echelon of Metropolis, even if they can’t get many to take them seriously at the moment. On top of that, Superman’s presence as a do-gooding crime fighter is continuing to be felt, with some skeptical of his intentions, including Lois, who sees him as a liar for dodging her questions last time, and Ivo, who straight up believes he’s after something. The latter belief is usually something that’s saved for Lex Luthor, who has been suspiciously absent from the series so far…unless Ivo’s assistant Alex is actually a stealth reveal later on.
If so, they definitely seem to be taking a different approach with him, though this show has already been full of going off the beaten path, with this week connecting Professor Ivo and Parasite, two characters who often aren’t linked. Professor Ivo also isn’t usually portrayed as your standard techbro CEO, nor is Parasite meant to be a battle armor (and if you’re marketing said battle armor to the public, can’t you come up with a friendlier name than “parasite”?!), but it’s “1.0” seems to imply that it will be making more menacing appearances down the line. And like I said before, I don’t mind this show going different places than expected, but I am noticing that the villains they’ve introduced so far feel kinda bereft of a lot of the charm of their original versions (and also seem to be all primarily techbased), so I’m hoping that changes soon. But speaking of different than expected, we seem to be leaping past the will-they-won’t-they between Lois and Clark in a single bound, as well as having her connect the dots about Clark pretty damn quick. Will we be seeing a disruption of status quo? Might this interfere with the honeymoon period between this newly formed power couple? Is Jimmy going to be a bummer for becoming a third wheel? Find out next time on the halfway point of this season!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
