Overview Saint Cecilia is kind, giving guidance to all. The moment they leave, her saintly manner vanishes. Pastor Lawrence is patient with her, is overprotective, and shows no signs of noticing her feelings for him. One day, they head into the village, and wacky antics ensue…Our Take Based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hazano Kazutake. The story takes place in a universe where living breathing saints exist. And in particular, the titular Saint of this story is romantically interested in a Pastor who is taking care of her. The real question is, does he feel the same way? It’s not like ministers or pastors can’t get married or have relationships right? So far her saintess is indeed a bit of a lazy slacker but it’s done in an endearing way that only rears its head when she lets her guard down, which only happens around the male lead who is responsible for the situation by not letting her do anything in the first place as an overprotective oblivious dolt. It’s also clear that Pastor Lawrence’s inability to see what’s going on may get tired after a few episodes, but hopefully nowhere as egregious as the contrived will they?/won’t they? dynamic of nearly every male character in Black Clover. At the very least, it’s slightly refreshing and weirdly different to have an Anime take place in a church and not expect any form of taboo sexual stuff, bloody violence, or any sort of ironic humor that satirizes religious hypocrisy & corruption. But I guess it’s partially expected when writing this as a romantic comedy of sorts. Overall, a passable first episode. I know Lawrence doesn’t see Cecilia as a love interest yet but their dynamic might set the tone for the rest of the series and hopefully, the characters progress and change over time. So far it gives off a comical relaxing atmosphere and the only conflict seems to come from the lack of reciprocation on Lawrence’s end, but that remains to be seen if anything will go anywhere in later episodes…
