English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Girlfriend Next Door”
Overview:
Ruka demands an explanation from Kazuya and Chizuru, and Mini overhears it all going down! What will she do with this information?
Our Take:
I think what makes this anime so unbearable is that there aren’t really any characters that aren’t annoying except for Sumi, she’s an angel. Even Chizuru has moments where she is annoying, I understand that she’s pretty mature and hasn’t been “leading” Kazuya on or anything but as we learn this episode she seems to be realizing that she does in fact have feelings for Kazuya… for some reason.
Harem anime in their very nature are pretty unbelievable but this show is the most unbelievable because why would more than one or two women actually be interested in this tool? Chizuru could make this series over in one second by just telling Kazuya she has feelings for him then they can figure the rest out. Now THAT could be interesting, but instead, we get more awkward and annoying interactions with everyone.
Ruka jumps to conclusions as per usual and most of the episode is about figuring out how to make this movie work. Ruka doesn’t feel comfortable leaving them alone and of course, she shouldn’t but man I hate misunderstandings. If everyone was just a little more honest then all of this would work itself out. The one breath of fresh air is that Mini traps Kazuya in her room and proceeds to tell him she isn’t interested in him like that. Finally, someone who realizes he’s a super douche.
