English Dub Review: Oshi no Ko “Egosurfing”
Overview:
Remember what you said in righteous outrage online? There were consequences. You never saw them, but that didn’t make them any less real, nor hold you any less accountable.
Our Take:
I want to get the one nitpick out of the way. This episode had a lot of text on screen and only a portion of it was translated. Given the subject matter and what was going on with the characters I think all of that text was important so only getting a bit of it was annoying.
Having said that, this was a fantastic episode that dealt with some very delicate subject matter. Akane Kurokawa is on the reality dating show with Aqua. She is trying to make a name for herself and jumpstart her career. When she makes a mistake on set the audience takes to the internet to let her have it. Kristen McGuire does the voice of Akane and she did a really great job, some of the lines were delivered poorly but I still think that might be a Sentai mixing issue. But she delivered where it counted and I think there might need to be a trigger warning for this episode.
Aqua saved her before she could jump to her death but as we know, Aqua doesn’t do anything just by chance. He’s cold and calculating with everything he does. What could be his reason for helping this girl he’s had next to no interactions with?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
