Review: Unicorn: Warriors Eternal “A Fateful Encounter”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Now reunited and reawakened, the Order of Unicorn try to plan their next move…or at least Edred does. Emma still has almost no memory of her time as Melinda and flees, visiting her parents and injured fiance, as well as a psychic who unlocks the original Melinda so they can have a conversation. Unfortunately, they all must come together again to face some naked statues while also on the run from the authorities.
OUR TAKE
The story is officially in full swing, with the main reincarnated characters now with their own monster of the week (or day, considering this may still be within the same afternoon) to deal with, and a mysterious greater enemy to face in the form of this fox lady named… “mysterious woman”. Hm, very creative. AND she’s voiced by Grey Delisle, just like the original Melinda. Not sure if there’s a connection there or Tartokovsky just really likes using her in stuff. But yes, we do meet the original Melinda this episode, showing that while Emma has taken on her powers, she hasn’t fully incorporated Melinda’s personality into her own like the others. Actually, it’s unclear if that’s what happened to Alfie with Seng, but Edred has definitely fully taken the steering wheel from Demetri (at least for the moment). Something has clearly gone wrong with the reincarnation process, at least for Emma, and we will hopefully learn more about that soon. Thus lies the intriguing and complex ethical dilemmas of this reincarnation system: the life the current personality leaves behind. Perhaps that is part of what Emma can’t let go and why she is clearly hesitating to give up control.
We also get to see smaller plotlines that flesh out the world a bit and show how elaborate the effects of these events have been over the centuries. Grey Delisle ALSO voices someone who clearly THOUGHT she was going to be the next Melinda alongside someone who thought they were going to be the next Seng, and the two get questioned by the police chief about this, but obviously that didn’t work out so…what now? Do they go help the ones who actually got the jobs? Is there a chance for a transferral process? Did they just never find and Edred for their group? There’s also not a whole lot we know about the bad guys thus far, but that’s natural at only the third episode of the series. It seems what we do know is they will be striking with either reanimated things or just animating things that should not be moving, with glowing green eyes and led by that weird fox lady. She hints at this possibly being the groups final reincarnation, but given what Tartokovsky wants to do with this in terms of making an anthology, that remains to be seen. Still quite interested in seeing where things go! Lets hope the creator of Dexter’s Lab and the original Clone Wars can make it work!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
