English Dub Review: Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra “Peter Grill and the Essence of an Apology”
OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)
Vegan and Fruitalia start throwing magic blasts at one another, but Peter intervenes to try and get them to reconcile, which they eventually do. They then use their combined power to unlock their great great grandfather’s vault to find the family fortune…which turns out to just be a sentimental message about working together, forcing them to continue trying to make heirs with Peter. Then the other girls show up and try to do the same. Meanwhile Luvelia’s father decides to send Peter on a deadly mission.
OUR TAKE
And so the elf mini arc comes to a close, with no one learning anything and the status quo having resumed, only with one more girl lusting after Peter’s “choad cheese”. One would think that having multi episode story arcs focusing on specific characters would mean that by the end they would have grown or changed a bit, but that wasn’t really the case with one of the ogre girls last season, so why start now? Heck, the orc girl who showed up at the beginning of this season has also basically just been added as another pair of tits to the group that can get in on the harem shenanigans, so it really just becomes clear that this will eventually happen to any new additions. Like if they do a story expanding the backstory for Piglett the goblin or the other ogre (don’t ask me to remember their names), it’s just going to amount to the same thing in the end, just possibly with another goblin around. I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised since there are so many anime like this already, but when you crack the formula on an entire series, it feels like a very hollow victory.
Anyway, in terms of things specific to this third part of the story, probably the thing that stands out about it the most was just how sloppy the animation looked. This is already the case normally, but it’s mainly used for low energy comedy scenes so it’s kinda easy to ignore. The problem now is that they tried to do a fight scene, however briefly, which looks like the shittiest of dog shit. One moment that will forever haunt me with cringe will be when Vegan gave her sister possibly the most uncomfortable looking grope I have seen in all the anime I have ever watched. I mean, this stuff is already uncomfortable to watch on the premise alone and the poor animation doesn’t help, but this show is ostensibly meant to be a sexy comedy, and it could not have failed harder to accomplish that goal than within that moment. MY chest hurt from watching that. And the finding out the elf family fortune was basically just their great great ancestor wanting them to get along also definitely fell flat. All that’s left for this season is another three episodes introducing yet another girl to the harem, this time a bunny eared dwarf, but perhaps they’ll surprise me and add something to the formula.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
