Review: Rick and Morty vs Cthulhu #4

The exciting conclusion to the four-part Rick and Morty crossover featuring Cthulhu comes to an end and I PREDICTED THE END IN THE REVIEW OF THE FIRST ISSUE! Still though, we get a satisfying conclusion that should satiate all of the people that enjoy HP Lovecraft, Rick and Morty, and maybe even Ancient Egyptian mythology.

The fourth wall breaks were a bunch of fun in that both leading parties were aware of said fourth wall and even threw jokes back and forth about this very fact which turned out to be pretty hilarious. And the full pages of illustration by Troy Little and Leonardo Ito were a rather excellent sight to behold, with horror-influenced sequences that required little to no dialogue from Jim Zub who still orchestrated a fine finale. Some of Crank!’s lettering was a bit confusing and hard to read because you really have to focus to see if it’s there at all, especially during the big battle between Rick and Cthulhu.

Yes, Jim Zub’s personal quandaries with HP Lovecraft are somewhat subjective and takes away from any chance of his Twitter-fed jokes from really landing when attempting, the premise and execution were still solid enough to recommend a gander at the TPB when it releases in the next few months.
