English Dub Review: Revenger: “Mutual Understanding”

Overview: Kurima (Aaron Campbell) and the team protect Liu (Kaiji Tang) as another team of Revengers hunts them down. 

Our Take: Liu’s character is a mirror version of Kurima in their sense of duty. However, he also represents who the ronin was in his honor being tied down to a master and his orders to destroy the opium. It connects them as kindred spirits, making for a genuine relationship. 

The Revengers aiding the warrior puts them at odds with the Chapel, beginning to seed in the doubt and fear surrounding their position. The priest’s Revengers’ distinguish just how deadly they are in dispatching all of Liu’s forces within Nagasaki.

Liu’s hatred acts as a compelling motivation for a bitten gold coin, hiring Kurima and the others. With Sada’s Revengers teaming up with Shishido and the chapel disavowing Usui’s team, the threats closing in on all sides intensify as they are up against dangerous numbers and resources.
