English Dub Review: Buddy Daddies “Love Is Blind”

Overview:

Miri’s class goes on a field trip, but Kazuki and Rei follow them.

Our Take:

Kazuki wants to make sure Miri knows right from wrong so she doesn’t grow up to be a delinquent. He’s concerned when he hears that Miri hit someone in her class. He tries to get Miri to tell him what happened, but Miri gets frustrated and tells Kazuki that she hates him. The next morning, Kazuki makes Miri a nice lunch for her field trip. However, Miri is still mad at him. In fact, she wants Rei to take her to school instead. Unfortunately, she ends up leaving without her lunch and Kazuki drags Rei along to the zoo to deliver it to her. The only problem is they can’t be seen.

At the zoo, we see Miri’s classmate Taiga is causing trouble. He walks away from the rest of the class, so Miri and her friends follow him. Meanwhile, Kazuki and Rei are tailing them. Not only that, but a thief is walking around looking for a free meal. A lot happens here. Miri and Taiga become friends, Miri tells the thief off, he tries to harm the kids, and Kazuki and Rei come to the rescue in disguise. At the end of it all, Miri and Taiga are on good terms and she also makes up with Kazuki.

This is a very enjoyable episode. Kazuki means well when he tries to get Miri’s side of the story, but Miri gets angry because she doesn’t like the way he’s talking to her. Her tantrum is believable because every child gets mad at their parents at one point or another. It also leads to Kazuki having some hilarious scenarios in his mind about how Miri will turn out if she goes down the wrong path.

I like seeing the direction Miri’s and Taiga’s friendship goes in. Taiga’s not a bad kid, but he does like to start trouble. Once he finds that he has a common interest with Miri though, he starts to realize that he’s been behaving poorly. It’s nice to see Miri have a good influence on him. It’s a shame she couldn’t have that same good influence on the thief, but Kazuki and Rei take care of that.

Overall, this episode is a lot of fun and it has some whole some moments as well. Not only that, but the post-credits scene raises a lot of questions. I’m expecting a lot of answers in the next episode.
