English Dub Review: Utawarerumono Mask of Truth “Speaking to a Princess”

Overview

Kuon does her best to batter Anju into submission so that she’ll remain in Ennakamuy instead of trying to retake Yamato…

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode with the two princesses going into a knock-out drag-down brawl, It’s easy to assume that the ripple effect of how the last season ended left such an emotional gut punch for everyone in different ways, it was so satisfying to see Kuon run the gamut of emotions and finally be given that glimmer of hope.

And the moment she listens to Haku there was a lot more inner dialog/conflict about her realizing that Oshtor was him and Anju was in the way and that how much she wanted to talk to him…

Overall, I liked this episode. So much action, and drama, and even Kuon hearing Haku slipping from his Oshtor persona and realizing the truth. Though the show doesn’t forget moments of levity even if those moments come across as low brow such as a subtle “fart joke” which hilariously clashes with the rest of the seriousness of the show, I guess it had to end with something happy somehow I guess…
