English Dub Review: The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World “The Boy Who Became the World’s Strongest Sorcerer Releases His Secret Power!”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Ray decided to be an organization staff member for the Magic Chevalier, the sword-fighting tournament between the three great sorcery academies. He watches as Amelia trains in preparation for academy-internal preliminaries, but then she suddenly requests a practice match with him. Though everybody expected Amelia to dominate, Ray actually pressures Amelia with his elegant swordsmanship. This unexpected turn of events is getting the crowd fired up. But Albert Alium is certainly not amused and demands that Ray duels him, during which he uses a real sword to ferociously assault Ray!
Our Take:
It makes sense that Ray’s not competing in the upcoming tournament considering his tremendous skills, but that doesn’t mean he can’t help with the event. After all, someone’s got to keep an eye out for the spy stalking the students. However, the episode doesn’t just focus on the preparations for the Magic Chevalier. Instead, it focuses on specific events that could turn the tide of the remaining season.
One of them is Ray dueling against two students, including Amelia, who’s a fan favorite to win the tournament. The other is Albert, who challenges Ray to a fight in an attempt to kill him. The catch is that they’re using real swords and magic instead of the practice ones. Thankfully, Ray manages to win against that shithead with his magic, which causes Amelia to be further suspicious of Ray. If you don’t like Albert as much as I do, you’ll probably enjoy seeing him get his just desserts in that sequence.
But that’s not even the best part of the episode, as we also see the true identity of the mysterious spy causing trouble for Ray and the others. The spy is none other than the school’s instructor Miss Gray, who reveals herself to be a member of Eugenics and the one responsible for manipulating Albert through his rage. She’s also tasked with retrieving a powerful Engram stored in Ray’s brain, so you can say that the student has become the back-stabbing bitch.
Overall, the episode managed to inject some life into the formulaic series, just like how Miss Gray injects a tool into her brain to become a ferocious beast. One primary reason is that we see Ray making the ultimate choice to save his friends. Ray wants to live a normal life but realizes that his friends are also important, so he restores his Iceblade Sorcerer powers to stop Gray’s wrath. This would’ve been saved until the tail end of the season. However, considering how the past three episodes turned out and Amelia’s insistence, I suppose having Ray reveal his identity now is needed to provide more interest in the series.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
