English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “The Hellish Todoroki Family, Part 2”

Overview:

As heroes deal with criticism from the public, Hawks thinks back on his past with his family, and Endeavor’s family visits him in the hospital.

Our Take:

The episode title is pretty misleading, it seems like all the stuff involving the Todoroki family will be coming to a head next episode. Most of this episode involved Hawks and how he was raised, though I suppose with Endeavor being his favorite hero growing up it kind of fits.

Hawks is one of the most nuanced characters in the series and I loved getting to see how he was raised. He could have easily become a disillusioned villain but instead, he became one of the best heroes. Honestly, it reminds me of a superhero version of The Departed which is one of my favorite movies.

This is when things are going to start getting really interesting. But it feels like it might take just a bit to get going so I hope you’re interested in character backstories for a little while. The Todoroki family has a lot of demons to sort through but I’ve become really invested in their recovery as a family.
