English Dub Review: By the Grace of the Gods “Ryoma and the New Acquaintance”

Overview

With the rest of his life moving along quite smoothly, Ryoma decides to take on more adventuring jobs to raise his adventurer rank. He visits Maylene at the Adventurer’s Guild to discuss the next steps…

Our Take

Ryoma going back to his adventurer roots after doing well with his business that’s affordable to leave to the hands of his capable staff. And it’s here where we meet the Adventurer Guild’s receptionist Paena being put in charge of Ryoma’s requests with Maylene’s assistance, and he’s back to the adventuring game to get back home from the forest whence he came from. Select jobs that are on the way, and Ryoma would not pass an opportunity to go to the town of Keleban for the magic item market.

It’s a huge marketing affair, even for a simple delivery. And such things as cars (or “magical vehicles” as they’re called) are definitely off-topic for Ryoma that are best left for the adult conversations, and Ryoma earned his clientele Dinome’s work in the coincidental fashion of meeting Serge on the way, to make a something unexpected yet wholesome out of it…

Overall, I am glad he is finally adventuring again. I don’t know if it could make this a compelling plot if the entire season just focused on his magical laundromats. I also like that the dialogue has shifted a bit from an internal dialogue to the back-and-forth with the letters which is a welcoming yet distinctive change. The real question is, will he get to his old home to get his stuff in the oncoming next episodes?
