English Dub Review: Buddy Daddies “The Kiss of Death”

Overview:

Kazuki and Rei learn how much of a handful Miri can be.

Our Take:

Kazuki and Rei are new to the world of parenting. They’re looking after Miri until they can get her back to her mother. However, they had no idea this would be so difficult. Miri is very energetic and she’s constantly running around. Her favorite game is hide-and-seek, which proves to be troublesome.

Miri doesn’t want to be left home alone, so she goes to Kazuki’s and Rei’s next job with them. Kazuki tells her to stay pit, but she has to use the bathroom. She goes in the house to do so and she sees Kazuki, which leads to all hell breaking loose. Luckily, our trio escapes safely, but they know they can’t continue working like this.

Meanwhile, there’s another assassin who makes his presence known. He finishes the job Kazuki and Rei flee from. We don’t know too much about him, but I’m definitely curious about this guy.

This episode is chock full of fun moments. Miri is four years old, so she’s running around, playing all the time, and she gets pouty when she doesn’t get her way. She’s acting like a normal child would, which is always nice to see. We don’t see any of that maturity that most anime children tend to have inexplicably.

Kazuki does his best to care for Miri, but it’s clear he has no idea what he’s doing. Rei, on the other hand, tolerates it more than anything. Even then, he can only stand so much. These two have a lot to learn if they’re going to continue taking care of Miri. Of course, their current plan is to send her back home.

It would be interesting to learn a little more about Miri’s life prior to leaving home. It seems like her mother didn’t want to care for her anymore, so she sent her to live with her father. Now that her father is dead, there’s another mess for Kazuki and Rei to clean up. Only time will tell if they can get Miri to go back home or if they’ll be her new parents from now on.
