English Dub Review: Violet Evergarden: Recollections

Our Take:

This is going to be short and sweet, kind of like this recap film. It’s an interesting review to do because it is one of my favorite series of all time. It is one of the most beautifully animated and well-told stories I’ve ever seen. So do I recommend Violet Evergarden: Recollections? Not in this way no, unless you are just wanting to speed through it to get to the movies I suppose. Which is another knock on this film because it doesn’t even include the conclusion to the series unless that is planned for later.

Violet Evergarden is one of the best anime Kyoani has ever put out and I can’t recommend you watch it enough. But just watch the full series because it is really worth it. For some positives for this film, it still has beautiful visuals and does at least tell some of the better stories from the series. It gives off some greatest hits vibes but I can’t in good conscience recommend it. So, in summary, I would say Violet Evergarden: Recollections is a good refresher for people who have seen the series and want to get to the movies. If you are a first-time viewer however just watch the series you won’t regret it.
