English Dub Review: Shinobi no Ittoki “Dusk Brings a Storm”

Overview:

Yumika’s death sentence brings turmoil to Iga. As Acting Chief, Ittoki’s leadership is tested, but he is still in shock over his mother’s imprisonment. Meanwhile, in Koga, something fearsome is beginning to move.

Our Take:

We were starting to get to a point where Ittoki felt he had some agency and was becoming the main character. Once again we are back to him feeling like a secondary character in his own story. Tokisada and Kousetsu were more interesting and doing the more important task. So it is hard to have still an interest in what is going on with Ittoki. Kirei being a spy has to come out soon because Iga’s plans are getting blown up way too quickly.

Issues with Ittoki aside I do also have to admit his strong points as well. Ittoki realizes that now he is a leader and has to make decisions for the benefit of everyone, not just himself. So it makes sense that he would send his two best people to rescue his mother instead of going himself. He is well aware of his strengths and weaknesses and delegates accordingly. While it isn’t interesting from a viewing standpoint I can at least appreciate him acting like a leader which is more than I can say for a lot of people that would be in his position at his age. We will say I’m optimistic about how this one could go down the line.
