Review: The Great North “Dick, Rick, Groom Adventure”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Beef is recruited to pilot a super yacht owned by eccentric billionaire Dick Chateau. Meanwhile, Wolf and Honeybee become convinced that a mysterious stranger is actually Wolf from the future.
Our Take:
The Tobins are setting sail in this week’s episode. While there isn’t any turkey involved, they do get something even better: a chance to ride a huge yacht. Unfortunately, it does come with a catch. The super yacht belongs to Dick Chateau, a self-centered billionaire with a grudge against Beef. Dick asks Beef to pilot his expensive ship to an island where his brother Rick is getting married. However, Dick is actually planning on ruining Rick’s wedding because he caught him cheating. The episode showcases Beef and Brian (Rob Delaney) attempting to have Dick make amends with Rick before he unleashes his bat bombs on the special occasion.
This is probably the first time I see Dick Chateau in an episode since I haven’t caught up with the show that much, mainly its first season. So I was concerned about how he’ll introduce the character to me. Thankfully, it provided a brief background on Beef’s “beef” with Dick, with the latter putting Beef and his family in danger during their last encounter. As for the plot, it’s another episode that benefits from its heartfelt message and decent humor.
Dick assumes Rick is a more devious version of himself due to him seeing Rick cheating before the wedding. However, Beef believes that the only solution to fixing their brotherly bond is supporting and talking to each other. Unfortunately, Dick’s accusation about his brother turns out to be accurate when Rick shows his true colors by marrying Dick’s ex-wife to embarrass him. On the bright side, though, the message applies to Beef and Brian when Brian discusses his frustration towards Beef for messing up Brian’s sale at the fair.
The episode’s side-plot doesn’t pack much interest compared to its main storyline. It sees Wolf and Honeybee following a stranger whom Wolf believes is a future version of himself. However, they later realize that they prefer to enjoy the present instead of wondering about the future, mainly because they know the stranger is just a stranger. Aside from Wolf calling the stranger a “looper”, resembling Rian Johnson’s sci-fi classic, the side-plot doesn’t offer much to the misinterpretation scenario we haven’t seen before.
“Dick, Rick, Groom Adventure” has plenty of predictable moments that threaten to sink this yacht, especially Wolf and Honeybee’s stakeout. However, the episode balances them out with enough endearing and humorous elements to keep this ship sailing. Sure, it doesn’t have anything related to Thanksgiving, but it does involve a family-related situation regarding Dick and his brother. That should make it a Thanksgiving episode, in my opinion.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
