English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “Cunning Demons”
Overview
Asmodeus and Sabro have been using their brute strength to capture their prey so far in the Harvest Festival when they run into the Dorodoro Brothers, Ichiro, and Niro, who are two of the favorites to win the whole competition. The brother issues a challenge, saying that they will hand over all of their points if Asmodeus and Sabro win against them. Meanwhile, Keroli and Camui have taken the lead in their own section by taking command of most of the magical beasts in their area and Jazz and Schneider have been gaining points by using strategy. What exactly was their hellish training with Sergeant Furfur like?
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, the Dorodoro Brothers are quite quick to antagonize people, between Azz and Sabnock. The race against the boss-level beast in an attempt to revive their master’s demonic self (which is clearly Balam), and the rest of the areas…easily amplified by the students of the Misfit Class, such as Cain and Keroil, the latter especially as a dem-dol sealing her cuteness away for her coldness for beauty. Brute strength and knowledge are crucial in the Harvest Festival, and the Diabotany Battler’s lead Solas Bobo and Allocer prove that a 3rd is just as important: deception.
And nowhere is this spotlighted better than the special demon Teacher who calls himself “Fur fur” who’s been assigned to teach both Allocer and Jazz, training their days in paradise and cunningness right under the netherworld, creating adult connections, and then getting tricked by Furfur’s lies to be subjected to part-time work at a cafe. Taking minors to a shady place with yakuza demons and strippers to make them pay a debt and call it “training”? Man, Furfur is truly the kind of demon this show was needing because if anything, it also helps expand this colorful monster world.
Overall, it was a passable episode. The team-ups so far are both exciting and compelling, and I loved Jazz and Allocer’s subplot getting the spotlight as it emphasizes how much of a greasy bastard Furfur is as a demon. It may have felt under-handed for Furfur to screw over Jazz and Schneider on a monetary level, but at the very least, I think Allocer and Jazz’s training will be of great help in the long term helping them develop “street smart” skills. As for Iruma, It had one hell of a cliffhanger that makes me wonder how he could possibly get himself out of danger and I plan to stick around to find out!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
