English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! “Uzaki-chan Wants a Confession!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Hana is worried she will not be able to hang out with Shinichi once he graduates from college. Since she is adamantly convinced that he likes her and not the other way around, she plots to make him confess his feelings to her. She cooks him lunch, which attracts the interest of her whole family. After Hana refuses to introduce her to Shinichi, Yanagi visits the cafe.

Our Take:
Time is running short for the zany college girl. With Shinichi planning on graduating from college next year, Hana will have to pull all the stops to get him to share his feelings with her. This kicks off the sophomore season’s second half, with Hana attempting to take her relationship with Shinichi to the next level. But, of course, we can’t forget about her family joining the fun.
The episode shows Hana cooking lunch for Shinichi to get him to confess his feelings. Although, it isn’t what Sakaki had in mind, as he wants Hana to confess her feelings for him instead. That didn’t stop her from trying, even though it led to some awkward conversations between Hana and Shinichi. What’s hilarious about this segment is that Sakaki’s plan to get Hana to move forward with her relationship works, but it doesn’t go exactly as he intended due to Hana’s crazy beliefs.
However, the episode’s central conflict comes from Hana’s younger sister, Yanagi. She constantly teases her siblings and parents, mainly Hana, and is desperate to see Hana’s mysterious “boyfriend”. Yanagi is basically similar to Hana, as her obnoxious teasing annoys and embarrasses the college girl. She even went as far as to embarrass Hana during her shift by having Shinichi call Yanagi by her first name. As a result, Hana winds up assuming the role of Shinichi. My, how the tables have turned for the zany young woman.
The chemistry between Hana and Yanagi quickly resembles the one between Hana and Shinichi during the show’s first season. Instead of Shinichi getting embarrassed by Hana’s behavior, we see Hana getting a taste of her own medicine when Yanagi does the same to her. Yanagi’s encounter with Hana at her workplace was also familiar to the show’s second episode, “The Cafe Owner Wants a Glimpse”. This small piece of karma helps deliver another hilariously solid episode that sees Hana’s attempt to get a confession going sideways thanks to her younger sibling.
