English Dub Review: RWBY: Ice Queendom “Dreams Come Rued”
Overview
Ruby, Blake, Yang, and Jaune infiltrate the dream world Schnee Empire once more. Jaune is able to sneak around undetected. With the help of dream versions of Team JNPR, he locates the yellow relic, inadvertently freeing child versions of Weiss doppelgangers. They run amok in the city, spreading their childish charm to the residents of the Empire. With the battle turning chaotic, Negative Weiss steps in and unleashes an ultimate weapon…
Our Take
Since anything can happen in a dream, this episode uses that to its full advantage while also staying close to the narrative as Team RWBY and Jaune start crashing the dream rather than just trying to live through it. The more things they change the more things start becoming chaotic. At the very least, I can appreciate the depth and insight into Weiss the show has given thus far.
It also sorts of works as a Jaune-focused episode as he proceeds to stealthily walk through Weiss’ dreamlands, and as someone who is allergic to Nightmare, he got a better reception from the enemy. And in the prison cell that locks the Sillies, seeing a hidden carnival that hides Team RWBY’s original yellow relic, he unleashes lots of mischievous child-versions of Weiss to run amok to signify a free spirit, retaliating against the oppressive town with his other Team JNPR teammates.
Overall, this was a surprisingly fun and wacky episode that brought some neat shots. The animation was much smoother in this episode than it was in the last one. Up until that point, the story started to get a little repetitive for being always in the same dream, so it was great to kinda break that dynamic of Weiss being this opposing force and having something within her subconscious be the chaos that Jaune indirectly unleashes. Given the track record of the animation team “Studio Shaft”, they’re capable of delivering on how crazy a story like this can get and I am completely fine with that. I’m just wondering how they can possibly face this new cliffhanger obstacle…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
